You know that when you upload your ad to AdWords, it plays across the AdWords video network. Then, content producers are paid when users click on ads that display before or while their YouTube videos play. But how can you maximize the number of high-quality users who will click your ads? Of course, having a firm understanding of AdWords analytics for video will help, and you can learn all about that here. But, in the meantime here are two quick hacks that will help you get more clicks on your YouTube ads — and be sure that the clicks you are paying for are the ones that count.

1. Make the first 5 seconds count.

Hook your viewers in the first 5 seconds and they are more likely to watch your video ad all the way through. Dane Golden, a popular Marketing expert, says that there is no difference of opinion among experts about the importance of timing of TruView in the popular in-Stream ads for conversion rate.

2. Audience targeting

Here’s the big one. Select your target audience with much care. Sometimes it is better to just allow a viewer skip your ad. Why would you want a viewer skip your ad? There are two main reasons you would want a viewer to skip your ad before the first 30 seconds have played. 1. They won’t buy from you no matter what. 2. If they are not interested and skip the video before 30 seconds, you won’t be charged. If you know a viewer is not in your target audience, it’s just better for them to skip the ad and resume the video. Choose your target audience wisely. Pre-qualify advertising viewers What is meant by pre-qualifying advertising views? In simple words, let users know exactly what your video is about right away, that way they will only watch the whole video if they are interested in the product you sell. Here’s how. If you sell trucks, you might mention your business and your website in the first 5-10 seconds of the video by saying something like, “We deal in high-quality trucks; you can browse through our trucks at www.mywebsite.com. If you’re not interested, feel free to skip now. Otherwise, click this shop now button to see what we have on the lot now.” Advertisers don’t pay for the videos that are not watched for at least 30 seconds unless, of course, the video is shorter than that. So here’s the hack: do a good job getting your message across in the first 5 seconds and you won’t have to pay. Viewers who are not interested in buying from you will most likely skip the ad before 30 seconds.
